Burping history?

Wow, today we acknowledge the 30th anniversary of Grant Devine's election as our Premier.  Was it really that long ago?

And we are still paying for the excesses of that era.  According to Murray Mandyrk's column (SP Apr. 27/12) this year's interest on provincial debt is $400 million dollars.  Ouch!  We have paid a lot for that spending era in terms of taxes and loss of services.

Does anyone else see this history be repeated today with our civic government?

  1. While I agree that the Devine era was not among our finest hours one should remember the mortgage reduction plan that kept many Saskatchewan residents in their homes when interest rates were flirting with 20+% and were reduced to a managable 12 or 13% (?). I for one am still in my house because of that program which I am sure contributed significantly to the overwhelming debt. How much I don't know but I am sure many people have forgotten that attempt to keep Saskatchewan citizens in their own house.
