This cat came back

I'm back from a month long tour in Asia.  And it appears that I am not the only cat coming back.  Former Mayor Henry Dayday has announced his candicacy for the next civic election.  We will have a race rather than a cornation.  More on that later.

Slowly folks are coming out of the woodwork to challenge incumbents.  Most disappointing for me were the articles on Sean Shaw's purchase of his opponent's domain name.  I know he has apologized and is now willing to transfer those rights to Troy Davies, but it does speak to character.  Although I don't always agree with Shaw, I have come to enjoy his perspective on issues and thus my disappointment.  I thought better of him.

It didn't surprise me that Councillor Darrren Hill thought this move was a great election strategy.  Hill has pushed the envelope on every election he has participated in. But I think his character has already been established - win at any cost.

It will be an interesting year.

  1. Welcome back Mistress.

As far as Sean Shaw goes I have lost a lot of respect for him and am glad I don't live in his riding. He had a good thing going but messed it up with such a cheap shot.

As far as Dayday goes I doubt he will put up much of a challenge. Still see it as Atch hands down no matter who runs against him.

  2. Issues come and go so all you really can rely on is the character of your elected representative. Mr. Shaw has revealed a fatal flaw in his through the unforced error of appropriating the name of another for what the international body describes as Bad Faith Intent. Unfortunately I do live in his ward. I will miss Myles.

  3. I think Mr. Dayday is on the right track, with a common sense approach to the City expenses and referendum. I really hope he wins.

But we will have to contend with the "Split Vote Syndrome" if Pat Atkinson and other mayoral candidates run. Note she has a new column in the Star Phoenix...wondor if that is fair to the other candidates?

Ethics and perception of ethics will surely be a big issue in this election. Does anybody still have them?

  4. Thanks Elaine for giving your honest opinion in your articles and this blog. You have the courage to speak out on what many of us are only thinking.

  5. Yes, Shaw's little trick has shown him to be a man of questionable character. I am happy to see a very strong candidate in Troy Davies challenging him in that ward.

  6. I hope you had a great trip. I wonder if your experiences altered any of your views , specifically in regards to urban environments. I know traveling to Asia and Europe changed my perspective substantially.

I agree with you on Shaw. He disappointed me. I am willing to give him a bit of a pass and chalk the error up to overeagerness and inexperience. He's heavily invested in the campaign, verging on being obsessed - I know for a fact he is reading this message within 5 minutes of me submitting it lol. Hopefully, he won't act like an asshole again because my impression of him until this recent incident was quite favourable.

  7. It won't matter to most people whether they had a favourable opinion of him prior to this incident. There are defining moments for politicians where their character is revealed. Some pass the test, others fail. Shaw failed and voters will remember that. They won't remember his positions on various issues, he'll just be the guy who stole the other guy's name for the internet. Not a great platform to run on.

  8. Hard to blame Shaw for poor choices when he relies on individuals like Dan Danielson for advice.

  9. Is Dan Danielson working on Sean's campaign again ?

  10. Given what occurred last election one can only wonder what mess Danielson might end up in this time.

  14. No need to post a link as I found the correction on Hill's twitter feed.
