Coming soon to this blog

When I started this blog I intended it to be an online diary and hoped for feedback from people with an interest in politics. I thought I could learn from other perspectives. For the best part most wishing to comment provided interesting feedback and constructive criticism was welcomed.

But in every barrel of apples there are a few bad ones. Those are the ones who can't express a thought on any issue and resort to personal attacks. Last Friday one of those lowbrows posted a lewd and libelous comment about a couple of councillors. The comment has been removed and will not be repeated here.

As a result I have contacted a "computer guy" and will spend the large amount of money necessary to track down that IP address. When I do the name will be published here.

This results in me having to consider putting controls on postings. I'm told I could set it up so I screen all posts prior to them being published, but that would detract from the spontaneity of dialogue - and in truth I don't have all day to sit at this computer screening comments.

When computer guy starts his work later this month, I am considering having posters register with the blog administrator prior to commenting. You can use whatever blog name you like, and your registration will not be public, or known to me, but in the event of slanderous comments, computer guy can track you down.

I know this means some of you will not participate, and for that I am sorry. But it will do away with the few who insist on bad behaviour and it may also raise the level of dialogue when the lowbrows are gone.

Until then, I will do my best to monitor posts and fend off the jerks.

I bet the person who published the comment (presuming about a marital rumour) is going to be spending a few days sweating now.

I applaud you Mistress, it is about time the rude Anon is outed. Hopefully one of the Councillors takes action against them.

  2. It's an unfortunate side effect of blogs.

I use wordpress myself. All commenters must include a name/nickname and an email address. I have to approve them the first time they comment but after that they are able to post comments freely.

I'd be happy to share a couple other things I employ that are fairly user-friendly/free - just send me an email.

When people are not able to post anon it seems to clean things up quite a bit.

  3. Here here Mistress I have always thought that this day would come. Will wait to see what format you choose.

  4. I don't understand why so many people are grumpy and unpleasant in the comments section. The name calling, snide remarks, and sarcasm make it unpleasant to read. On the rare occasions that I've posted comments, I've been called a lefty AND I've been called a sycophant who drinks the Sask Party Kool-Aid. While I find it amusing that I am somehow simultaneously a left and right wing zealot, it really speaks to the low quality of discourse. I'd like to ask questions without people assuming an ulterior motive, and I'd like to read other comments that are sincere and not snide, sarcastic remarks that only serve to inflame.

It is a good idea to make the comments section registration only.

  5. Insightful, thought provoking and/or humorous comments are good, mean spirited, slanderous and/or rude comments are not. It's simple really, bullying and make no mistake about it, saying mean, rude and slanderous things about people while hiding under "anonymous" is bullying and unexceptable
