I too am stymied as to why Layton would pick a rookie MP from Quebec as interim leader over and above more seasoned stalwarts of the party. Speculation runs abound from appeasing Quebec to preventing any consideration of a merge with the Liberals.
I am curious as to what you think.

Aren't all decisions with the NDP based on seniority like their beloved unions?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there is a 30-yr vet former snow plow operator among their rank of MPs who is steaming that they were passed over for perhaps someone less tenured but more qualified.
Just further evidence that the NDP is catering their policy to Quebec at the expense of the rest of Canada.
Well, maybe there is a really simple explanation that has to do more with internal matters should Mr. Layton not be able to come back. These heavy hitters that you reference would possibly be in line for permanent leadership if this happened.
ReplyDeleteBut it is much easier to make this a Quebec issue rather than think this far ahead. I think it is a shrewd move to appease Quebec for now and still think of the party's future.
I couldn't give a f&*^ who they pick they will be irrelevant after the next election as their numbers will surely return to pre PQ wipeout.
ReplyDeletegreat analysis Anon 1259pm!
ReplyDeletethanks:)
ReplyDelete@12:59 Real classy post.
ReplyDelete...once again illustrating how this blog attracts not a shred of intelligence.
ReplyDeleteIt attracted you 4:14! I don't like Jack Layton's politics but I admire and respect the man, he has done what his drum told him to do I for one wish him well in his horrific battle with a very deadly foe.
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:59 here. At least I'm honest about my feelings. BTW my comment had nothing to do with Jack's battle with cancer.
ReplyDeleteJust in.....New NDP leader long time member of the Bloc.. It just keeps getting better for poor old Jack.
ReplyDeleteshhhhhhhh..... the dyed in orange, refusing to listen, lefties on here don't live when you bring facts in that are detrimental to their party.
ReplyDeletebetter to dig the head deeper into the sand then confront reality.
The interim leader of the NDP has been a long time member of the NDP and joined the Bloc for a period to support a friend.
ReplyDeleteWhat were the reasons for the Harper cabinet ministers supporting the Bloc?
