  2. Ah Mistress, you must be on pins and needles. The big day and you go with "see you at the polls"? I went first thing this morning and the place was in total Chaos! You'd think those running the poles would get there early. At my poll they were still getting set up. I was given the wrong ballot and oh they forgot to have me sing the declaration for eligibility. Lets hope things go smoother elsewhere. And what's with the cheat sheet that has those who voted in the advanced polls on it. So if you vote early they don't want you voting again but if you vote today you can vote as many times as you like? There is no way they would be able to stop you if you went later in the day and to another table. What a crock. Janice Mann needs to be removed from this position as she runs one of the sloppiest systems I have ever seen.

  3. Just saw a story on the NTR site about city officials having to tear down campaign signs posted illegally near voting stations.

Guess who's signs are being removed in the photo? (Hint, hint: Darren Hill.)

Perfect wrap-up to a questionable campaign.

  4. Funny thing is I heard about that happening and the first person I thought of was Hill. But it doesn't surprise me.

  5. I think it is to bad we can't vote on a few of the top, plumb jobs at the hall as well as councilors and mayor! I am sure that boob Janice Mann would be the first to go she is arrogant and has no respect for citizens going to her office with legitimate questions. Her running of this election is a disgrace

  6. Mann's running of every election has been questionable. Very little training to those on the front lines. I know personally many voters that didn't sign or have to answer pertinent questions. Her answer is always I'll get right on that. Her job is to ensure the validity of the votes cast. Afgans have a better chance of getting that done. How about the fact she allowed the SP to put in a questionnaire into the candidates packages (something totally against the law). The Paper is a corporation ,does this mean any other special interest group gets a shot in there next time. How will she say no.

  7. All I want is someone to fire the inept ones. Those would be the ones that keep costing me millions because of their mistakes but that would mean we would be looking for a bunch of city managers. No second chances at city hall it's my money and I want it guarded with their jobs.

  8. Just look at Janice Mann's last twitter post. It's still about the advanced polls guess nothing is happening today. Regina's update even includes number of votes cast so far today. Kudos to them.

  9. No one seems to care - is the devil you know better than the one you don't???
Good to see double-dipper Tad Cherkewich go down as school board trustee. Too bad the board is in for more b.s. from Vernon Linklater - they'll never get anything done now. Not only will he want to ban the flag in schools but probably want everyone to hang out in sweat lodges.

  10. Very sad that only 27% of voters turned out. What is wrong with this city!

  11. I guess ward 1 made it clear to Carol with the kind of representation they want!

  12. With such a pathetic voter turnout its a foregone conclusion that incumbents will get back in. It will soon seem pointless for people to run..they are wasting their time and money. The voters dont care enough to get out and vote.
Cant believe Atch suggested voter turnout was low because people are satisfied. What a stupid comment! You would hope our mayor would indicate that we need our citizens to take an active interest.

  13. So what was Swystun's response to her demise and low voter turn out. Oh the young people couldn't find the polls. There wasn't enough information in the star and now she's advocating voting on the internet. We can't keep track of who's voting now how would we ever do that without privacy issues. I hope she crawls back into her hole and that we doesn't she her shadow for many years.

  14. Not sure you can call an increase in support a demise? Swystun receieved 17,678 votes up from last election.

  15. If Swystun hadnt run there would have been no race to speak of. I did not support her ..or Atch either..but I thank her for her efforts. She ran a very strong campaign. Had voter turnout been alot higher, you never know. Many I know voted for Atch simply because they didnt feel there was an alternative they were happy with. 27% voter turnout & getting the default votes from those not satisfied with the other candidates is hardly a ringing endorsement of the current mayor!

  16. I agree, with all due respect to Swystun I know myself and many others who did not consider her a viable option to run the city. While she has some good ideas she has alienated enough people to be unable to garner the necessary support it would take to run this city. Her ideas, while enlightened, are simply not practical and would have put more stress on the city debt than even Atch could rack up. That being said, she ran a good campaign including being an innovator in local politics for utilizing the power of the internet and social media. However, she just wasn't a practical option for regular people who were not a zealous follower of one of her causes.

So with no viable alternatives Atch was only able to bring in 58% of the votes? That should be an eye opener for him, especially when you consider the large margins of victory in the Regina (84%), PA (around 80% I believe as well) and other jurisdictions. Had there been more than Systun and a collection of off balls running it could have been a much different outcome. I would think that if Lorje or another high profile citizen of the city were to take a run next election that Atch would be in serious jeopardy of being ousted. We'll see in 3 years I guess.

  17. Atch support rate is around 17%. He won because the race lacked a candidate the city could rally around. Lenore put up a good fight and increased her vote total but she just did not have the resume to take over as mayor.
