Tommorow is another day

Apparently the "gut-wrenching" budget decisions have not yet started at City Hall.

In today's SP it is reported that a committee of Council approved a $6.7 million plan for a bike path link (SP June 22/11.) Administration has identified $1.650 in funding for phase one of the project, but the balance of $5 million has not yet been sourced. I expect that expenditure will not make it to the budget until after the 2012 civic election.

As this is a committee of Council making a recommendation to Council as a whole, it will be interesting to see what the commentary and vote will be.

  1. it just takes moving 5 million from the 200 million road budget to be able to cover the cost of the pedestrian/bike corridor....

  2. so they are taking even more money from the already underfunded road budget and transferring it to other programs?

is council just too dense to realize how stupid the continually make themselves look? announce belt tightening one day and the next launching more spending campaigns. unbelievable. almost as unbelievable as charging tax payers for 4 flights to halifax for a 3 day conference just so you can have your pudgy face in some pictures with a large donor.

  3. considering our road budget accounts for 40% of all money spent, I don't think it's underfunded.

  4. have you seen our roads? i would argue that it is underfunded.

i suppose the only other option would be that the funding is wasted away and never actually applied to the road. ahhh that makes sense considering the lazy city workers who'd rather sit around on the lawn than actually do work to improve the streets.

  6. i actually work flex time, not at work at this moment.

but way to jump to conclusions, that's the problem with you union folk is that it is easier to attack than defend your track records.

when i'm at work, i work.... not bitch and complain about how my 19 years on the job entitles me to more pay over the less tenured but much better worker in the company.

  8. A few people posting on this site need a time out in their rooms.

What you're missing is a council who one day states is harsh budgeting to come and the next day a committe of council recommends more spending.
