Back in the saddle

I'm back from an emergency Flo Nightingale gig in Kelowna. Good news is that the patient will live and the Saskatchewan weather that trailed me to BC assisted in their forest fire problems. However the Kelowna golfers were ready to pool money to send me and the weather back home.

I'm just starting to catch up on my backlog of the SP papers and already have so much to comment on. I'll be working backwards from today.

I see Mr. LeClerc has finally stepped down and according to Murray Mandryk the Sask Party's candidate, Gord Wyant, is touted as a step up to a more credible slate. The lawyers in the province should be happy to know that political pundits are looking more favourably on their profession in that they are an upgrade from a criminal element that they are generally required to defend. I'm sad to say that it appears that men like LeClerc cannot leave their past behind. I will be anxious to hear the results of the investigation and whether or not LeClerc is simply political fallout.

On the upside, if the city is required to hold a by-election it can at the same time field some referendum questions to city residents on some very pricey projects. ie Whitewater, Recycling, the Traffic Bridge, . . . .debt in general.

Ah, its good to be home!

  1. whether leclerc is guilty of what is accused or not is not by biggest concern, what is more troubling is the whole incident has highlighted how devious sask politics has become. secret recordings? chat room transcripts?

the allegations? he smoked some weed, maybe did some cocaine and is potentially gay? enough to smear a political career i guess, but if being gay and smoking weed are serious crimes then we may as well lock up half the country. the cocaine is a potentially serious issue, but again let's see some hard evidence. was a drug test ever ordered?

in summary, it feels as if leclerc is nothing but political cannon fodder. if he had been a more important politician the sask party probably would've gone to bat for him a little harder.

plain and simple, ndp wanted someone to smear chose an easy target like leclerc to create some dubious accusations around and got their man. sask party probably sat back and realized having serge fall on the sword made the most sense and let it happen and hope it blows over. just another highlight of the sad state of affairs in sask politics from all involved.

  2. Gord Wyant being the business manager for Serge LeClerc in the past is going to have a difficult time telling voters he is not connected to Serge.

The other issue is did Serge use his MLA perks to push his private speaking engagements and what knowledge did the Saskatchewan party have? They allowed Serge to push the idea that his pardon was received after a special act of parliament despite the pardon being routine.

  3. What does Wyant's relationship to Leclerc have to do with his running? Is your insinuation that because he did work for Serge he too was smoking weed and snorting cocaine?

I have been supportive of friends who have battled addictions problems in the past and helped them out as they tried to rehab after (and in one instance lapsed). Should I be concerned that supporting someone through addictions problems will tarnish my reputation. If I hear one implication from the NDP regarding Wyant (who I am personally not a big fan of) and his relationship with Leclerc it will secure my vote for the Sask Party.

In some instances I believe it is warranted to have concern over a business relationship (ie. Mulroney), but never ever should a person have their name dragged through the mud for maintaining a professional relationship with someone who has battled personal addiction problems.

  4. THIS WHOLE INCIDENT IS ONE MORE REASON WHY THE SASKATCHEWAN PARTY SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF GOVERNMENT. THEY ARE JUST A BUNCH OF DRUG SNIFFING PRIVATIZERS, THEY WANT TO SELL OFF POTASH CORPORATION THEY HAVE PARTY MEMBERS DOING BLOW. BRAD WALL RAN THIS PROVINCE INTO DEBT FOR WHAT???? NOTHING? BRING BACK THE NDP NEXT ELECTION

  5. The Saskatchewan party is attempting to say we want nothing to do with Serge LeClerc and the accusations against him but yet Gord Wyant has been his business manager! You can't say the new guy has nothing to do with the old guy when the new guy has been the business manager for the old guy!

  6. What are the accusations you are making? That Wyant by being Leclerc's business manager must have been aware of his drug abuse and affinity for male escorts?

I don't think those sound exactly like items that are discussed casually between people in a professional capacity.

So what is your intention in linking Leclerc and Wyant? How does Wyant having a been business manager to Leclerc have any relevance? Would Calvert be any less the person he is if it was found out he played on the same softball team as Paul Bernardo in the 1970s?

  7. You can't say somebody has no connection to Serge if they have been his business manager.

  8. What does having a connection to someone who has personal problems have to do with a candidates ability to perform if elected?

I surely hope you aren't implying that because Wyant was Leclerc's business manager he too is a marijuana and cocaine user.

  9. Why is Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan party attempting to say Gord Wyant is a completely new candidate? Gord Wyant has been the business manager for Serge so why is the Saskatchewan party saying he has no connection to Serge?

And a reminder to all Saskatchewan party supporters Serge has not been found of doing anything wrong so feel able to admit that Gord Wyant has worked for Serge in the past.

  10. Perhaps the Sask Party is talking in the present tense, in that Wyant right now has no connection to Serge.

In any event, why can't the NDP hypocrites answer the one question what does having a connection to someone going through personal problems (ie. addictions) have anything to do with ability to govern?

Why is this even an issue or being mentioned? One of my good friends from college recently entered AA, I guess that means that his personal problems should be held against me.

  11. Pure spin from the Saskatchewan party. You cannot say Gord Wyant has no connection to Serge if he has been his past business manager.

The issue from what has been reported is Serge is under investigation for using his MLA office for his private speaking engagements.
